My journey to the food blogging and passion for cooking is not a usual one. Born and raised in Poland, I grew up on dishes traditionally associated with Poland such as pierogi, bigos, barszcz or kotlet schabowy, intertwined from time to time with some influences of the Italian or Asian tastes when my father was experimenting in the kitchen which he loves till today. For the University, I moved to the UK where I studied law in the colourful sea-side of Brighton, moving on later into the corporate career in London, where I spent 5 years. During that time, I had no time or energy to cook, but I took the full advantage of the multicultural nature of London and discovered some of the cuisines that inspire me to this day.
My life changed completely when I met my husband while I was visiting a friend in Prague for New Year’s Eve. He is Swiss and was living in his country while I was based in London and for almost three years, we have been in a long-distanced relationship. Tired of the constant travels, I took a leap of faith and moved to Switzerland – via Zürich to the Alpine village of Termen in the Valais Alps. It is a wholly different universe than London, but nothing can beat waking up to the views of the pristine mountains.
Since my relocation, I began to experiment more and more in the kitchen, trying to preserve and remember the tastes that I discovered in London and the ones that stayed within me from my Polish background. This, coupled with the new world of culinary experiences of an Alpine cuisine, is what inspires me and my recipes.
I enjoy putting together the dishes that incorporate local produce and are seasonal, but are also infused with the influences of my background and the cuisines that I discovered while living in different countries and travelling. The village where I am based is just half an hour drive from Italy and the flavours of Italy highly affect the typical mountain-style way of cooking here. I give it an occasional Polish twist 🙂
I am still working in the financial services industry here and cooking is my passion and past-time activity. The kitchen is a place where I can be creative and invent something that I can share later with other.
This blog is my journey through the culinary discoveries – both for everyday after-work meals up to the weekend feasts, celebrations and scrumptious indulgences 🙂 I believe that food and cooking bring people together and to cross the boundaries of the recipes and exploring new combinations are some of the life’s biggest joys.
I hope you will join in my journey documented on this bog.
